Response:
The Côte d’Ivoire has started vaccinating children against malaria, becoming the first country to introduce the new vaccine as part of a World Health Organization (WHO) pilot program. The RTS,S vaccine, developed by GlaxoSmithKline, was approved for use by the WHO in 2015 and has been shown to reduce malaria cases in children by about 40%. The vaccine will be given in three doses to children aged 5-17 months, along with other recommended vaccinations. The pilot program aims to vaccinate 360,000 children in three African countries, with the ultimate goal of achieving widespread use of the vaccine across the continent.
